Treatment of the cells with TGFß induces expression of alpha smooth muscle actin, indicating myofibroblast differentiation/activation, which is a key event in physiological and pathological tissue repair. Therefore, the cells are valuable to get first insights whether certain compounds inhibit or promote myofibroblast differentiation / lung fibrosis.
